ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION ON THE TOPIC ‘IMPLEMENTATION OF MAINTENANCE OF PARENTS AND SENIOR CITIZENS ACT 2007

A round table discussion on the Implementation of the Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007was organized by the Legal Counselling and Facilitation Centre For Senior Citizens of G.R.Kare College of Law in association with its MoU partner All Goa Senior citizens Forum on 9th April 2022.

Dr. Saba Dasilva, Principal of the College delivered the welcome addressed. The round table discussion was inaugurated by Dr. Indradev Shukla, IPS, Retd. DGP. He highlighted the importance of the maintenance of Parents and Senior citizens Act 2007 and stressed on the need for proper implementation of the Act. He urged the authorities for the implementation of the Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 should ensure that happiness ratio for senior citizens is maintained in the State of Goa. He suggested that helplines must be created for easy reporting of the cases. He also stressed on the awareness programmes to be conducted in order to sensitise the Senior citizens about their rights under the Act. He also suggested to have alternate dispute resolution centres at the local level across the State to help issues relating to Senior Citizens in speedy manner. According to him all the stakeholders need to come on the same page in order to achieve 100% implementation of the said Act.

After the speech of the Chief guest the stakeholders from the concerned departments put across their opinions on the implementation of the Act.

Towards the end of the discussion,the proceeding were summarized by the moderator Dr, Shruti  Nadkarni, Assistant Professor and faculty incharge of Legal Counselling and Facilitation Centre For Senior Citizens of the college.The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Ruby Luis, Assistant Professor& member of Legal Counselling and Facilitation Centre For Senior Citizens
