Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law was established in the year 1979 when acute need was felt to enable aspirants from South Goa to pursue legal education without having to travel to far away Panaji for the same. Initially the institution was affiliated to the Bombay University until the birth of the Goa University, to which it is affiliated today. What started off in a rental premises in a humble way in Borda-Margao has today grown into an independent multi-storeyed building which is well-equipped in terms of infrastructure, library facilities etc. and a well-qualified and competent faculty. This makes the institution the only Centre for Legal Studies in South Goa, which is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Secs. 2(f) and 12B and the Bar Council of India for imparting professional education in law and is today accredited by NAAC with a B++ Grade (CGPA 2.78 on a 4.0 point scale).

The institutional premises are situated on a spacious land area at Tansor-Comba, Margao in a multi storeyed building, at the heart of a beautiful scenic environment, amongst other institutions of the Vidya Vikas Mandal, which has ensured sufficient recreational and Sports facilities, organised vehicle parking and ensured an environment-friendly campus through a modest attempt at rain water harvesting and waste management, besides providing and ensuring a conducive atmosphere for learning.

The Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao-Goa, in its quest for excellence in the field of legal education is taking giant strides towards this goal. The institution has a dynamic team of well-qualified faculty on the staff, which is committed to provide the best of services. Looking back at its glory, the institution boasts of several gold medalists at the University examinations, well-placed corporate employees, high ranking officials in the bureaucracy and several judicial officers including the first Goan woman judge of Bombay High Court, recently elevated.

The students are also given live experiences in providing legal aid to the needy with the active assistance and control of the vibrant faculty. The students of this institution are therefore churned out into society through a rigorous curriculum and their placement is facilitated by the institution with campus interviews that are being conducted periodically. The Institution is recognised as Research Centre  to offer Doctoral studies in Law. With all these, coupled with exchange programmes of faculty as well as that of students – both nationally and internationally, the institution is striving to be the best in the field of legal education in India.
