COURSE OUTCOME OF THE B.A . LL.B PROGRAMME (SEM I-X)

CO 1: General English I – To provide a student with a platform to develop his confidence and to enhance his communication skills. This in turn will facilitate his/her advocacy skills, mediation skills etc. Students will be able to give a good oral presentation and will increase their reading speed and efficiency.

CO 2: Legal Research & Methodology- to acquaint the student to understand the legal terms and concepts which are routinely used in the legal profession. It also enables the students to develop a sense of professionalism.

CO 3: Environmental Studies- to encourage the student to respect and nurture his environment and to ensure protection of the flora and fauna and such other environmental issues through litigation.

CO 4: Political Science I – Political Thought is an introductory paper to the concepts, ideas and theories in Political theory. It seeks to explain the evolution and usages of these concepts, ideas and theories with reference to individual thinkers both historically and analytically.

CO 5: Economics I – to acquaint the student with the study of his economy thereby facilitating his participation in the implementation of various economic reforms. Student will be able to understand the links between household behavior and the economic models of demand.

CO 6: General English II- The study of language in the law programme enables the student to understand the legal terms and the context in which it is used and also develop the communication skills by use of such a terminology. It also enables a student to develop professionalism and court etiquettes.

CO 7: Law of Contract I -to initiate the process of getting involved in partnerships, contracts, and situations and to understand the remedies available to a party in cases of its breach.

CO 8: Law of Torts- To understand the principles of Tortious liability, the defenses available in an action for torts as also to study specific torts against the individual and property. Keeping in mind, the expensive character of judicial proceedings the students should reflect on the alternative forms, and also the remedies provided under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

CO 9: Political Science II- This paper highlights the Indian Government and Politics and enables the student to focus on the political processes and actual functioning of the political system. It simultaneously studies in detail the political structure-both Constitutional and Administrative.

CO 10: Economics II- it enables the student/learner to understand the relationship between the demand and supply and how to bring about a balance between them. This study is an important aspect of society as it will help to suggest reforms and study the planning adopted by the authorities needed to enact a legislation.

CO 11: Constitutional Law I - to enable the student to understand the supreme law of the land, the fundamental rights and the duties and the functions of the courts to redress the violation of such rights. It helps the student to be pro-active undertake ‘judicial activism’. The students should be able to articulate their independent views over contemporary crucial constitutional issues like Constitutional Supremacy, Rule of law, and Concept of Liberty, organization, Powers and Functions of the various Organs of the Government.

CO 12: Law of Crimes- This subject facilitates the student to understand the ingredients of an offence which is made punishable under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the general defenses that can also be taken in order to prevent such an offence. It also helps to understand the various kinds of crimes and its components, methods of controlling them and the essential principles of criminal liability by a study of a range of offences.

CO 13: Law of Contract II To introduce the students to the basic principles governing contracts and lay a powerful foundation for their study of other transactional and related laws in higher semesters.

C0 14: Political Science III This paper helps the student to critically analyze the relationship between government and the political scenario in the country and to study its relevant in present times. It also enables the student to study the major constitutions of the world by adopting a comparative approach.

CO 15: Economics III- The law relating to employment is a crucial aspect at present, to make the students realize and to learn fundamental of laws governing the employer and employees relationship and to regulate the same through various means.

CO 16: Family Law I – This course enables the student to get acquainted with the laws pertaining to marriage, divorce, property and position of women under the different personal laws in India and Goa. To gain knowledge of family laws and to endow the students with knowledge of both the codified and uncodified portions of Hindu law. It concerns with the sources, schools, institutions, succession, maintenance, menace of dowry, etc.

CO 17: Property law and Easement- To make student understand the concept of ‘Property’, the ‘nature of property rights’ and the general principles governing the transfer of property. A detailed study of the substantive law relating to sale, mortgage, lease, exchange, gift and actionable claims will also be undertaken.

CO 18: Constitutional Law II- This subject enables the students to understand the relationship between the Center and the states, the role of the Governor in the states, the functions of the election commission and the distribution of finance between the center and the states for effectively enkindling the laws and rules in force in the state.

CO 19: Political Science IV The course seeks to familiarize the students with the major contributions of the key modern Indian Political thinkers. It focuses on their life and work and outlines their key political and philosophical ideas.

CO 20: Special English- Persuasive speaking in meetings and negotiating, client counseling , writing formal letters, making in dept presentations, understanding the language contracts , negotiable instruments is the basic pre-requisite of learning the course of special English.

CO 21: Family Law II- This subject focuses on the issues pertaining to succession, inheritance, intestate and testamentary succession in the various personal laws applicable in the country. It also helps the student to understand the concepts in a more realistic manner. Students will be studying codified and un codified portions of Mohammedan Law and the sources, schools, institutions, succession, maintenance, menace of dowry, etc. In addition the students have to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Indian Succession Act.

CO 22: Company Law- To make the students understand the formation, management and other activities of the companies. The important developments that have taken place in the corporate sector and Important regulations pertaining to the issue of shares and the capital raising have come into force. This course aims to impart the students, the corporate management, control, possible abuses, the remedies and government regulation of corporate
business and winding up of companies.

CO 23: Environmental Law- to enable a student to acquaint himself about the various laws which governs our eco system. To inculcate the sense of responsibility and to respond the needs of environment protection as a part of their fundamental duty they will be learning the important principles like inter-generation equity, carrying capacity, sustainable development, and precautionary principle, polluter pay principles and the law in practice.

CO 24: Political Science V This course deals with Goa pre-statehood and post statehood situation and enables the students to get an insight into pre-colonial and post-colonial institutions in Goa. It provides the historical background and political evolution in Goa leading from the liberation to the pre-statehood period, focusing both political leaders and the parties.

CO 25: History I- as one of the oldest source of law, to enable a student to study the past/its history and to apply the situation to the modern day period wherein the legislators had to enact laws to protect the interest of the citizens during the various phases in history.

CO 26: Legal Theory-It enables the student to understand the various theories and concepts which deals with the sources of law such as Judicial precedents, legislation etc. and the concepts like possession, ownership etc. Without deep understanding of the concept neither legal practice nor legal education can be a purposive activity. By learning the legal Jurisprudence students will be knowing important questions like, what is law, what are the purposes of law?, the relationship between law and justice and the like and to analyze the legal concepts.

CO 27: Labour Law I- The study of this course enables the learner to understand the various industrial laws and the mechanism for its peaceful resolution without resorting to the civil courts. It also highlights the various rights available to the workmen employed in industries and the remedies for its misuse by the employer.

CO 28: Political Science VI The subject of Public Administration seeks to familiarize students with the fundamentals of Public Administration. It emphasizes on organizational and functional aspects of administration.

CO 29: History II –The study enables the learner to understand the past situations in order to find out the present scenario in the light of historical developments, the legal changes and the social requirements.

CO 30: Insurance- This study facilitates the student to understand the law relating to insurance and to analyze and study life insurance, fire and marine insurance in the context of the Indian scenario.

CO 31: Interpretation of Statutes– A very important component in the study of law. It helps in the interpretation of a legislation and related matters which helps the student to understand the intention of te legislature in enacting a statute, the way it can be interpreted and to understanding the rules used by legislature eg. Golden rule, mischief rule.

CO 32: Health Law-Students, upon completion will be in a position to identify and understand related provisions under the constitution and other health related laws as also analyze the shortfalls among doctors and provide remedies accordingly.

CO 33: Labour Law II-At the end of the course, the student will be in a position to identify all the related aspects of labour law that are practices in India and also demonstrate an intellectual capacity for solving industrial disputes.

CO 33: Law of Evidence- study the law pertaining to collection and use of evidence both primary and secondary. The law of Evidence has its own significance amongst Procedural Laws. The knowledge of law of Evidence is indispensable for a lawyer. The course is designed to acquaint the students with the rules of evidence in relation to relevancy of facts and proof.

CO 34: Administrative Law-Students will be learning the about Nature Development of law relating to administration and effective means of administrative control further they will be The Focus is on their role in protecting the rights of individuals against abuse of administration and adjudicatory powers of the administration and liability of administrative authorities.

CO 35: History III- Students will be in a position to understand the main features of Indian culture, civilization and heritage and will be in a position to draw a fair picture of IndoIslamic culture on India.

CO 36: Human Rights- The course of Human Rights is designed to prepare for responsible citizenship with awareness of the relationship between Human Rights, democracy and development and to foster respect for international obligations for peace and development; to impart education on national and international regime of Human Rights.

CO 37: Child and Law- Students will develop and in class will practice skills of good legal analysis, reasoning, problem solving, by discussion of the materials, rules, statutes, cases, etc. Students will be able to perform legal research relating to juvenile court jurisdiction and procedures, legal principles and concepts.

CO 38: Code of Civil Procedure –This course of C.P.C is designed to Study the importance of procedural law. To acquaint the students with the various stages through which a civil case passes through, and the connected matters. The course also includes law of limitation.

CO 39: Code of Criminal Procedure- Procedural Law providing for a fair procedure is significant for a just society. To acquaint the student with organization of the functionaries, their power and functions at various stages and the procedure according to which these powers and functions are to be exercised under the provisions of procedural law.

CO 40: Public International Law- Students will demonstrate an understanding of how international law today influences and interacts with domestic law in a diversity of substantive areas.

CO 41: Criminology- Students at the end of the course will be in a position to uunderstand and apply competing sociological and criminological theories to explain the social construction of crime and deviance, the nature and causes of crime, and the social reaction to crime and deviance.

CO 42: Penology& victim logy-The course of Penology and Victim logy offers a specialist understanding of criminal policies including theories of punishment, their supposed philosophical and sociological justifications and the problem of exercise of discretion in sentencing.

CO 43: Patents Rights: On completion of this unit of study, students should be able to:
 Apply intellectual property law principles (including copyright, patents, designs and trademarks) to real problems and analyse the social impact of intellectual property law and policy
 Work in teams, solve problems and manage time
 Analyse ethical and professional issues which arise in the intellectual property law context

CO 44: Information Technology Law- Make Learner Conversant With The Social And Intellectual property issues emerging from cyberspace and to develop The Understanding Of Relationship Between Commerce and cyberspace

CO 45: Banking Law- The course of Banking Law is designed to primarily acquaint the students with operational parameters of banking law, and to teach the general principles of banking law and to develop appreciative faculties of the students in statutory as will as well as case – law in this area.

CO 46: Legislative Drafting- Students will be able to describe describe the nature of legislative drafting in the parliamentary tradition and how that tradition developed; explain the duties and responsibilities of legislative counsel; present an overall picture of why legislative texts take the form they do; and use the correct expressions to describe the main features of English grammar.

CO 47: Competition Law This Course of Competition law is designed to introduce the students to the laws that are designed from time to time in keeping with the policy of the government to prevent unfair trade competition and protection of consumers. The laws are to be geared up to pass on the benefit of competition to consumers.

CO 48: Law of Taxation- This course of Taxation is designed to equip students for taxation to make a detailed study of tax policy and to provide a comprehensive picture of taxation in India.

CO 49: International trade Law – At the conclusion of this course students should be able to understand the theoretical basis of trade law as free trade theory and the attacks that have been made on free trade theory, understand the development in the last century of international institutions governing trade, understand the laws and policies of the WTO, develop problem solving skills in trade law understand the relationship between trade, development, the environment and human rights.

CO 50: Law and medicine – To enable the students to learn the provisions of medicine to law and to enable students to understand and analyse the legal provisions in the light of such legal regime.

CO 51: Trademarks & designs law- By the end of the course, the student should (i) know the main components of the studied protection systems (subject matter, conditions, effects, prerogatives and exceptions, duration, etc.), (ii) be able to identify the applicable texts and jurisprudences (learning to manipulate legislative texts and put jurisprudential texts to good use) and (iii) analyse a concrete situation, it aims at highlighting some general issues
encountered in intellectual property law (enforcement) as well as questions of public interest (relation between intellectual property law and freedom of expression, challenges posed by the internet, etc.).

CO 52: Land Laws- This course enables the learner to understand and study the local laws applicable in the state of Goa such as the Land Revenue Code, Agricultural Tenacy Act, Rent Control Act and also to increase the employability of students in these areas of practice of local laws.

CO 53: Air and Space Law- This course helps the student to understand and apply the provisions of the law to the practical application.

CO 54: Copyright Law- to enrich the knowledge of the students with respect to the domain of Intellectual property. Students will be able to apply intellectual property law principles (including copyright, patents, designs and trademarks) to real problems and analyse the social impact of intellectual property law and policy, solve problems and manage time and analyse ethical and professional issues which arise in the intellectual property law context.

CO 55: Media & Law- it enables the student to study media laws in India and the world, study the Right of Freedom of Speech and reasonable restrictions applicable, discuss media regulation in India, demonstrate an understanding of the nature of ethics and morality in journalism, determine the ethical issues of media with case studies and to determine the provision provided to the journalist.

CO 56: International Commercial Dispute Resolution – At the end of this course, a student will be able to examine the legal framework for the prevention and resolution of commercial disputes in the international context.

CO 57 : Law and Education- to study the law relating to education and allied studies. The skills to deal with ethical and moral issues in the legal profession. Learn the different role of lawyers and the ways in which lawyers can effect social change through innovative interpretation of legal principles. The ability to render legal advice in a professional manner to the clients.

CO 58: Investment Law- Upon the completion of this course, students will be in a position to explain the main principles of International investment law and identify key key instruments and institutional arrangements regulating international investment . Apply the key norms of modern international investment law.

CO 59: Humanitarian & Refugee Law- The students are expected after the conclusion of the course to be able to identify various solutions to legal problems at hand and in addition, apply the relevant international law norms/rules in a qualified manner, - read and understand international case-law as well as identify the relevant issues in the concrete case and analyse the human rights norms in a contextual manner, i.e. to apply an ideological perspective.

CO 60: Right to Information & Law- -The course is designed to convince the students how the right to information infuses transparency and accountability in governance, preventing abuse of power.

CO 61: Women and Law - to help the learner to study the provisions of various laws relating to women in India and analyse its effectiveness. The course draws the attention to the feeble conditions of women and their exploitation. The limitation on their capacity and legal rights and protection provide in the constitution and under various laws are studied critically.

Practical Paper I: Drafting of Pleading and Conveying - This course is designed for training
the students in drafting of pleadings and conveyances and other essential documents. The skill of drafting can be acquired and sharpened by undertaking the exercises under the supervision of an expert in the field.
Practical Paper II: Professional Ethics- The course on professional ethics as a practical component in the field of law has been designed to imbibe students with high ethical values forming the basis of the profession.
Practical Paper III: Alternative Dispute Resolution- This course enables the learner to get familiarize with the modalities and techniques of dispute resolution, analyse traditional justice delivery system through adjudication along with alternative mode of dispute resolution.
Practical Paper IV: Moot Court - This course of Moot Court exercise is designed to hone advocacy skills in the students. Moot Courts are simulation exercises geared up to endow students with facility in preparation of written submissions and planning, organising and marshalling arguments in the given time so as to convince the presiding officer.
